“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.
I have this folder on my computer, which is a folder of saved images for books I want to read. It is much easier to right click and save a picture, rather than open up my to read excel spreadsheet and put the book in there. It’s a good system that really works for me right now. At some point I will have to go through and write them down and get rid of the pictures as they start to take up too much space on the computer, but for now, it suites. This Folder I call the Waiting on Wednesday folder. Mostly it is for upcoming new books.
Every Wednesday I go through this folder. I don’t really have anything specific in mind, I just kind go go through and feel it out. Some I have read the synopsis for, and others their just cool covers. This week as I am flipping through, the below book grabbed me a little, but not a lot. So I flipped all the way through to the end, and then went back to the beginning. I stopped on it again. Chose it. Ironic as I now look beside me and the book I have just taken out from the library is by the same author.
Magic is dangerous—but love is more dangerous still.
When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray crosses the ocean to find her brother, her destination is England, the time is the reign of Queen Victoria, and something terrifying is waiting for her in London’s Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Only the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons, keep order amidst the chaos.
Kidnapped by the mysterious Dark Sisters, members of a secret organization called The Pandemonium Club, Tessa soon learns that she herself is a Downworlder with a rare ability: the power to transform, at will, into another person. What’s more, the Magister, the shadowy figure who runs the Club, will stop at nothing to claim Tessa’s power for his own.
Friendless and hunted, Tessa takes refuge with the Shadowhunters of the London Institute, who swear to find her brother if she will use her power to help them. She soon finds herself fascinated by—and torn between—two best friends: James, whose fragile beauty hides a deadly secret, and blue-eyed Will, whose caustic wit and volatile moods keep everyone in his life at arm’s length . . . everyone, that is, but Tessa. As their search draws them deep into the heart of an arcane plot that threatens to destroy the Shadowhunters, Tessa realizes that she may need to choose between saving her brother and helping her new friends save the world. . . . and that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.
Not sure I am really sold on the Synopsis but the time period and the cover are enough to draw me in. It just kind of feels same old same old to me. Perhaps they need to hire someone new to write the synopsis. If I like City of Bones though, chances are I will make my way to reading this eventually. Freaking awesome cover though. In the same vein as her first covers.
