Man does this book pack a punch. As opposed to the other books that meandered, this one was all like the SHIZ will happen all of the time. Try to breathe and sleep – what? next to impossible with all of the anxiety and crappy situations we put you in characters – yeah I thought so!
I swear it’s like you could hear the author cackling evilly as she just threw one thing after another at her characters. And all through it Sophie maintains her sarcastic wit. I love how the it’s a part of her personality though; the more Shiz gets real yo’ the more she cracks funny sarcastic remarks to break the tension.
I’m on the fence about the whole Archer/Cal thing. On one hand kudos that we know she likes Archer and she’s loyal to that. On the other hand Cal is a much better choice, and super dreamy. When she finds out that Cal is her fiancée (long live arranged marriages!) , there is confusion because on one hand Archer is with the enemy and Cal is super dreamy, but on the other hand she feel for Archer before she knew about Cal. Cal is sweet but introverted, so I felt like she never really got to know him, so he never really got to have a chance with her. Either way the kisses between her and Archer are PG written but feel like they could be ever so steamy.
Also there are some great reveals in regards to her parents. And the Branicks. (on a side note I am never sure about spin off series but after reading this last installment I will totally be picking up School Spirits).
This is a fun fast YA romp that I loved. It’s not super angsty, but it is definitely humorous. It has boarding schools and magic. I would definitely recommend it for younger YA readers, of the Gallagher Girl age range.
